About Karin

Personal Bio

Karin received her formal education at the West Coast College of Massage and Hydro Therapy (WCCMT), becoming licensed in 1991. She went on to post-grad training in
St. John Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) and Systemic Deep Tissue Therapy TM (Ayaltin). Additional courses also include Stretch, Strength & Stability and Shiatsu Massage.

Prior to establishing her private practice, Karin’s workplaces included Point Grey Massage and Neuromuscular Center, Kitsilano Massage Therapy, Sutton Place Hotel, and The Vancouver Folk Music Festival. She also worked as a tutor for blind and audio impaired students training as massage therapists at the WCCMT.

In private practice on the Sunshine Coast since 1995, Karin's current focus is women's health. She welcomes you to her quiet and tranquil location at ‘the end of the road.’

Professional College

In BC, RMTs must complete a three year diploma program at an accredited college. The government approved curriculum requires a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, remedial exercise and clinical sciences. All RMTs must complete BC board exams set by the College of Massage Therapists of BC (CMTBC) and are required to take regular continuing education in order to maintain their license. RMTs honour a strict Code of Ethics mandated by the CMTBC, maintain Liability Insurance and are trained in Health Record Keeping, Privacy Legislation and Legal Consent in order to ensure that patients receive safe, ethical and competent care.

Coverage

RMTs are primary contact health providers. MD referrals are not required for Medical Services Plan (MSP) or Extended Health Coverage. MSP partially covers massage therapy for patients who qualify for Premium Assistance. For physician referred injuries or conditions, patients may be able to access coverage through other insurers such as ICBC or employer group plans.
